OTTAWA – Oakville’s Josh Cassidy was two seconds away from a Canadian record at the ING Ottawa Marathon on May 28.
Competing in the Canadian Wheelchair Championship division, Cassidy, the 2005 Ontario Wheelchair Sports Association’s Athlete of the Year, crossed the finish line in 1:33.50, two seconds back of winner and five-time paralympian Jeff Adams. Adams time set the Canadian wheelchair standard in the race’s inaugural staging. Ottawa’s Allan Bergman and Cassidy crossed in a dead heat.
The ING marathons were part of the Ottawa Race weekend which drew a record number of participants in nine categories from full marathons to inline skate marathons. Participation totalled 29,364.
