Intercounty Thunderbirds face league leaders at Bernie Arbour Stadium

Toronto Maple Leafs bring their front running show to Bernie Arbour Stadium Wednesday night.

The league-leading Maple Leafs will put their 14-3 record against the Thunderbirds 4-14 mark. The Leafs are coming off a doubleheader sweep of the Guelph Royals on Sunday while the T-Birds are still smarting from a 5-2 loss to the Kitchener Panthers. In that Sunday game in Kitchener, Hamilton outhit their hosts almost 2-to-1 (12-8).

Tom Roberston and Jeff McGinn accounted for half of Hamilton’s hits.

Adaam Auer’s two-run single in the fifth inning scored the Panthers winning runs.

Ian Hagan (1-0) went six innings in recording his first IBL win. He scattered eight hits while walking three and striking out eight. Jake Hover pitched two innings of relief followed by Adam Hornostaj who pitched the ninth and picked up the save. Bryon Bell was the only Panther with more than one hit – two hits and an RBI.

Doug Chrysler (2-2) went five innings for Hamilton, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks. Chris Hayes finished up, giving up only one hit in three innings of work.

Wednesday’s game starts at 7.30 p.m.
