Thunderbirds drop to last place with Intercounty spanking

Ouch! Hamilton Thunderbirds met the Toronto Maple Leafs at the wrong time on Wednesday night (June 21).

Pitcher Paul Spoljaric improved his unblemished record to 6-0 and the league-leading Leafs picked up their sixth straight senior Intercounty Baseball League win blanking the visiting T-Birds 11-0.

The win sent Hamilton to the basement of the nine team circuit.

Hamilton managed a meagre three hits off Spoljaric who struck out nine and walked only one in the seven innings he stymied his guests. Jeff Reeves tossed two shutout innings of relief to finish the game. Gamin Teague had three hits, scored three runs, and had an RBI in the Leafs 12 hit output. Danny Gibbons hit a two-run homer for the Leafs and Joe Colameco had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Saul Gonzalez (0-1) went four-plus innings and allowed five runs on four hits to take the loss.

Hamilton is home to Kitchener Panthers on Friday, 7.30 p.m. at Bernie Arbour Stadium.
