Top cyclists vie for cash at Hamilton Classic two-stage race

Some of the province’s top cyclists will line up against local racers to chase $8,500 in prize money at the Hamilton Classic Stage Race on July 9.

The two stage event, at two locations, will run for most of the day, starting at 8 a.m. and finishes around 8.30 p.m. Men and women will compete in Masters, Seniors, Juniors and Elite divisions.

The first stage is a 15-kilometre individual time trial starting at 8 a.m. at the Ancaster Senior Achievement Center on Alberton Road, where it will end as well. The time trial should finish around 11 a.m and parking is available at the centre.

The second stage will kick off at 1 p.m. but on the other side of the city at Glovers and Twenty roads. The 5 km circuit goes Glover Rd., to Dickenson Rd., to Nebo Rd., to Twenty Rd., to Glovers Rd. Distances will vary between 60 and 80 km and the number of circuits will be determined by a rider’s category. Racing is expected to go from 1p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Parking for this event will be available at the GT French Paper warehouse on Glover Road.
