Sholer carries Women’s Amateur lead into final round

St. Catharines – Hamilton’s Ashley Sholer remained at the top of the leaderboard heading into final round play at the Investors Group Ontario Women’s Amateur Championship today.

Repeating Wednesday’s opening round 71 on Thursday, the 20-year-old Sholer’s two-under par score leaves her at 142 at the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club. Sholer, a Hamilton resident, who attends Oklahoma City University, used four birdies to offset three bogeys to lead two time champion Laura Matthews of Stillwater, Oklahoma who sits only one stroke off the pace.

Matthews carded a two-under par 70, including four birdies, to join Sholer as the only two players under par.

Barrie native Stephanie Sherlock, 19, is two shots off the pace after a 69, the low round in the championship. She ran up a streak of four birdies in a seven-hole stretch to hold onto third at even par and will play in the final pairing with Sholer and Matthews.
