LONDON – Hamilton Thunderbirds showed they have some offensive staying power by outlasting the London Majors 11-10 in senior Intercounty Baseball League play Friday night.
Jeff McGinn had three hits and scored three himself to spark the TBirds 15-hit attack. Andy Steeds and Adam Strongman contributed a homerun each to shore up the Hamilton offence. Picking up his first win of the season was Andrew Schwalm (1-2). He held the third place Majors to two hits in 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief after starter Chris Hayes allowed 10 runs (only five of which were earned) from 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Hamilton committed four errors.
Losing pitcher Josh Palmer (4-3) allowed four runs in 3 2/3 innings of relief.
Kevin Virtue had three of London’s 10 hits and drove in two runs and Simon Galarraga homered for London.
In the only other game Brantford Red Sox beat Barrie Baycats 12-9.
