Elite Thunderbirds set 2006-2007 baseball tryouts

Hamilton’s Canadian Thunderbirds are holding tryouts for their 14-and-under, 15-and-under, 16 and under, and 18-and under Elite teams for the 2006-2007 seasons. Tryouts will be held at Hamilton, Brampton, Kitchener, Oakville, St. Catharines, and London during August.

The teams will play a fall exhibition schedule, then spend the winter months conditioning, in preparation for a regular spring and summer schedule against teams from the Toronto and Southern Ontario areas as well as from the United States in the SANDLOTT and Premier Baseball League of Ontario.

Players who make the teams are usually seeking baseball scholarships or are hopeful of being scouted and signed by Major League clubs.

Tryouts will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, August 9, Bernie Arbour Stadium, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 13, Bernie Arbour, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The first three hours of each workout date is for the SANDLOTT age groups (12 to 15 years) while the second three hours is for the 16 to 18 year old age groups.

Players attending the tryouts should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. There is a $10 per player charge for the tryouts and refreshments (drinks) will be provided. The fee is to offset the costs of park rentals, equipment used, and administration.

It is a requirement that players attend a minimum of three tryouts so that they may be properly evaluated, however, prospective players may attend as many tryouts as they wish.
