Intercounty baseball final is Brantford vs London after Leafs exit


Brantford pulled up its Red Sox and knocked Toronto Maple Leafs out of the playoffs. The Red Sox 11-2 win on Wednesday night sets up a London Majors-Brantford senior Intercounty Baseball League final. Dates for the best-of-seven championship series will be announced today.

The Red Sox, who finished the regular season in third place, eliminated the second place finishing Maple Leafs 4-1 in the best-of-seven semifinal.

Wednesday night, Josh McCurdy’s three-run homer capped a six-run fifth inning that wiped out a 1-0 lead Toronto had taken in the second inning.

Lee Delfino had a three-run double as part of Brantford’s 11-hit attack, while Hyung Cho and Al Stevens each had a pair of hits.

Pitcher Brad Hogeterp picked up the complete game victory and improved his post-season mound record to 3-0. He gave up five hits that led to the Leafs only runs.Seven Leafs went down swinging and one managed a free pass to first.

Maple Lead Mike Lynch (1-1) lasted 4 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs on five hits.

Jeremy Walker’s solo homerun gave Toronto the early lead and Damon Topolie had two hits and drove in Toronto’s other run.
