An error in the bottom of the 11th inning gave London the winning run in a 10-9 decision that allowed the Majors to even the senior Intercounty Baseball League final with Brantford Red Sox at a game apiece.
Both teams committed a pair of miscues in the Sunday game, but Kevin Virtue ran home with the decisive run that sends the best-of-seven series back to Brantford for Game 3 Monday night at 8 p.m.
Simon Gallaraga had three singles and drove in a pair of runs for the Majors who were outhit 14-12 in the slugfest. Matt Luvisotto had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run while Rudy Vallejos had a two-baser and drove in a run in the win.
Reliever Adam Arnold earned the mound decision, his first in the post season, after pitching 2 2/3 innings. Starter Hiarali Garcia gave up eight runs and nine hits in his 7 2/3 innings. Tom Van Kasteren worked 2/3 of an inning of relief for London.
Aaron Boag (1-2) was on the mound when the winning run scored. He pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief while starter Stefan Strecker gave up seven runs in his brief 1 1/3 innings. Ryan Brickman also pitched for Brantford.
London had a 7-1 lead after two innings and Brantford tied the game 9-9 in the top of the ninth to force extra innings. For the visiting Red Sox, Josh McCurdy and Adam Vella homered and David Parsons added three singles.
After Monday’s game, the series, the series returns to London for a 7.30 p.m., and is back in Brantford on Friday, for an 8 p.m. start. If necessary, Game six will be played in London on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2p.m. and a seventh game, if needed will come to Brantford the following night at 8 o’clock.
