Extra inning win puts Brantford in Intercounty baseball driver’s seat

Brantford Red Sox are one win away from raising the senior Intercounty Baseball League championship banner. A 10-inning 6-5 win over the London Majors on Wednesday night sets up the possible best-of-seven series-ending game five Friday night in Brantford.

Adam Vella, who had three of Brantford’s hits, scored the winning run on Raul Borjas’s single to give the Red Sox the 3-1 series lead.

London’s Kevin Virtue had tied the game with a homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning after Brantford had taken the lead in the top half of the inning with a pair of runs.
Wayne Foreman and Lee Delfino each had three singles for the Red Sox.

Stefan Strecker (2-1) was credited with the win after an inning of relief, literally. He loaded the bases before getting the game’s final out.

Starter John Ogiltree gave up three runs on four hits in his 3 1/3 innings of work before give way to Aaron Boag who went 5 2/3 innings.

Taking the loss was Tony VanKasteren in his 2/3 innings of relief. He allowed three hits, including the winner. Starter Erick Perez gave up three more runs in his seven innings of work. Hiiarali Garcia and Adam Arnold had an inning of relief each for the Majors.

Offensively, Ryan Gauthier had a trio of hits, including a double, for London. He also had two runs batter in.
Friday’s game starts at 8 p.m. at the Arnold Anderson Stadium. A sixth game would be played back in London on Sunday at 1 p.m.
