Red Sox wait is over, Brantford new Intercounty Baseball champs

It took a quarter of a century, but Brantford Red Sox can once again call themselves Intercounty Baseball League champions. The Red Sox won the Jack and Lynne Dominico Trophy Friday night by virtue of a 7-3 win over the London Majors in the senior circuit final series. Brantford took the best of seven playoff finale 4-1.

Brantford last claimed the league championship in 1981. This season Brantford finished regular schedule play in third place with a 24-12 win-loss record. The Majors were fourth and had a 21-15 showing.

Raul Borjas had a three run triple in the fifth inning and then scored on an error to cap a six-run frame that wiped away a 2-1 London lead.

Brantford also got a solo homerun from Al Stephens. Ryan Brickman picked up his first post-season pitching decision, holding the Majors to three hits and three runs in his 5 2/3 innings of work. Picking up the win was Stefan Strecker who tossed 3 1/3 innings, giving up two hits but allowing no runs.

London’s Hiarali Garcia (2-1) allowed seven runs – three earned – and seven hits while striking out seven batters and walking one in a complete-game effort.
