The Mohawk College women Mountaineers had a perfect soccer weekend. They capped the weekend with a 6-0 thumping of the La Cite Coyotes at the Algonquin Thunder Soccer Tournament in Ottawa on Sunday. On Saturday the Mountaineers scored a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the host Thunder.
On Sunday, the Mountaineers were paced by Kristi Cossar and Nicole Brohman, who each had two goals. Singles came from Ali Bettger and Amanda Celeste.
The men’s team went one-and-one. They were dumped 5-0 on Saturday playing St. Anthony Italia of Ottawa, a club team that has Algonquin alumni on it. St. Anthony has advanced to the championship games of the Ontario Cup and the Canadian Soccer Association’s Open Canada Cup.
On Sunday, the men Mountaineers won by default when their opponents, Champlain from Saint Lambert, Que., were no shows.
Both Mountaineers squads now prepare to open the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association regular season at home against Sheridan College on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
