The Mohawk women’s soccer team rallied for a 2-1 win over host Algonquin College in the Thunder Soccer Tournament in Ottawa on Saturday. Nicole Brohman scored the winner for Mohawk with about five minutes left to play. The come-from-behind win puts Mohawk against La Cite Coyotes of Ottawa on Sunday.
After falling behind just after the quarter hour mark, the Mountaineers drew even on Kristi Cossar’s goal, also in the first half.
Mohawk’s men’s team were not as fortunate. The men had their hands full in their opener Saturday, losing 5-0 to St. Anthony Italia of Ottawa. St. Anthony, which includes Algonquin alumni, is a strong club team which has advanced to the finals in both the Ontario Cup and the Canadian Soccer League’s Open Canada Cup.
The men will meet the Champlain Cavaliers of St. Lambert Quebec on Sunday.
