Hamilton Thunderbirds’ fall schedule leads to October Showcase

The 2006 SANDLOTT Fall Ball baseball season for the Hamilton-based Canadian Thunderbirds 18 and Under Elite Baseball Team opens this weekend. The Thunderbirds will complete a weekend of play with a game on Sunday (Sept. 17) at 11 a.m. against the Oakville Royals at Millcroft Park in Burlington.

Wednesday, Sept. 27:
Ontario Mavericks, Hamilton Bernie Arbour Stadium, 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 28:
Long Island, N.Y., Blue Chip Park, time TBA.

Wednesday, Oct.4:
Terriers, Bernie Arbour, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 7:
B Prospects, Bernie Arbour, 11 a.m.

Thunderbirds tryouts continue for teams in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario (PBLO) and SANDLOTT. Positions on the 2006-07 Thunderbirds are still available in the 14 and under and the 15 and under SANDLOTT teams as well as the 16 and under and 18 and under Thunderbirds Elite teams. All tryouts are held at Bernie Arbour Stadium.

On the October 28-29 weekend, the Thunderbirds and the PBLO will hold the annual Canadian Elite Players International College and Uniiversity Showcase. The two-day affair will be held at the Hamilton Sports Dome, 104 Frid Street.

Organizers say that the Showcase has become Canada’s premier indoor event for players seeking athletic scholarships or pro draft opportunities in Canada and the United States. More than 30 college and university coaches have already registered and organizers expect as many as 40 to attend.
