Mac baseball on losing end of see-saw affair with Laurier

A three-run ninth inning push gave the visiting Laurier Golden Hawks an 8-5 win over the McMaster Marauders on Tuesday night.

The result dropped Mac to 3-4 in the Ontario University Athletics baseball race. Laurier picked up its second win against five losses.

The two teams played a see-saw affair with the Bernie Arbour Stadium visitors grabbing a 2-0 in the first inning. Mac grabbed those back in the third only to have Laurier regain the lead in the seventh with another two runs.

Marauders responded with a pair of scores in their half of the inning and the teams exchanged one run efforts in the eighth inning.

Laurier outhit Mac 13-6.

Christopher Piccini (Mississauga Loyola) and Ian Miersch (Oakville Appleby College) each were 2-for-4 at the plate with a run-batted-in each. David White (Collingwood) and his 1-for-3 plate also had an RBI. Laurier left 12 men stranded on the base paths while Mac left three.

Eric Conlon’s complete game outing went for a loss. Conlon (Burlington Nelson) struck out seven batters, and didn’t issue a walk. Jaret Kwart (Richmond Hill) took the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Sixth place Mac is home to second place Waterloo Warriors on Saturday. Gametime at Bernie Arbour is 1 p.m.
