If the Georgian Grizzlies proved anything, it’s that they are bears for punishment. The Barrie college took it on the chin Saturday when the visiting Mohawk Mountaineers went on a scoring spree, pasting a 61-7 victory on the Grizzlies.
It was the second straight win to start the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association rugby season for Hamilton and both victories came on the road. Georgian is now 0-2.
Zack Crocker led the way with three tries. Darcy Palmer and Steve Johnston had two apiece and Brian Pearman and James Cumpson chipped in with one try each. Cumpson was also good on eight of his nine conversion attempts.
“Everything was clicking, said Mohawk head coach Alex Paris. “Our backs were running well, the forwards were putting on pressure, it was enjoyable to watch.”
The Mountaineers finally get to play at home Tuesday (Sept. 26) when they meet Kitchener’s Conestoga at 5 p.m. at Mohawk Sports Park.
