Late rally keeps Mohawk’s soccer record unblemished

The Mohawk Mountaineers men’s team appeared headed to its first loss of the early Ontario Colleges Athletic Association soccer season, but rebounded from a two goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie with London’s Fanshawe Falcons.

Fanshawe jumped ahead with a goal in each half before Silvano Rajkovic scored on a penalty midway through the second half. With regulation time expired and playing in injury time, A.J. Campbell (Hamilton) converted a pass for the equalizer. Even though Mohawk remains undefeated with a win and two draws, they’ve had to come from behind a number of times and head Coach Richard Bennett said time will be his charges enemy if they don’t take advantage of scoring opportunities.

“We had a couple of chances in the first half, didn’t finish, and they came back and scored on us. We made mental errors, played the long ball too much and the energy wasn’t there,” said Bennett.

He anticipates the energy will be on Friday when the Mountaineers visit city-rival Redeemer at 3 pm.
