The Hamilton Bulldogs are looking for their first preseason win this afternoon after Friday night’s 6-4 loss to the Crunch in Syracuse. The American Hockey League Bulldogs are back on this side of the border and find themselves in Woodstock to take on the Marlies in their third exhibition game.
Toronto handed Hamilton its first preseason loss earlier this week in Oshawa.
Last night, Syracuse took a 2-1 first period lead on goals from Joakim Lindstrom and Joe Motzko. Bulldog Kyle Chipchura scored his first goal of the preseason to lift Hamilton into a brief 1-1 tie. Motzko scored his goal 52 seconds after Hamilton tied the score.
Hamilton managed to pull even again in the second period when Frederic St. Denis notched his second goal of the preseason. But two Syracuse tallies in a span of 3:11 gave the Crunch a two-goal cushion and a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Brent Walton, at 12:42, and Adam Pineault, at 15:53, made it 4-2 for the Crunch.
The teams would exchange a pair of goals each in the final period. Michael Lambert and Mathieu Aubin scored for Hamilton while Motzko and Walton each scored their second goals for Syracuse.
Bulldogs goaltender Cederick Desjardins stopped 28 of the 34 shots he faced. Crunch netminder Tomas Popperle made 30 saves on 34 shots.
The ‘Dogs get another shot at the Crunch in their fourth, and final pre-season match-up, on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m., at Niagara Falls (Ont.) Memorial Arena.
