McMaster Marauders football team is rolling in the dough… pizza dough that is. The No. 3 nationally ranked Marauders and their 5-0 record earned them Ontario University Athletics Pizza Pizza Team of the Month laurels.
With rookie coach Stefan Ptaszek patrolling the sidelines, Marauders have put together wins of 37-5 (Queens), 33-16 (York), 60-7 (Waterloo), 24-19 (Ottawa), and 32-20 (Windsor).
Mac is doing it on both sides of the ball. Offensively in the Canadian Interuniversity Sports stats sheets, Marauders are second in average offence yards per game with 475.8 and the defence sits in the same position in OUA rankings, with 313.8 yards allowed.
Despite missing the first game of the season, quarterback Adam Archibald has thrown for 1,041 yards in four games and delivered seven touchdown passes.
When Mac opts to run the ball, Beamsville native Andre Sadeghian, who joined the team via the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, has been a prolific leather lugger. His 573 yards from 86 carries is third best in the OUA but his eight rushing TDs is best in the country. Sadeghian was the OUA’s nominee for this past week’s CIS offensive player of the week.
Mac has scored 186 points and held the opposition to 69. Marauders are back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. when they play No. 7 nationally ranked Laurier University at 2p.m. at Ivor Wynne Stadium. The Golden Hawks are 4-1.
Toronto University Blues also won OUA honours after its women’s tennis team took the provincial crown for a third straight year.
