Ticats catch two receivers, place them on practice roster

Two new players have joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as they begin looking toward the 2007 season. Import receiver Nate Curry and non-import receiver Atnus Maeko signed with the Canadian Football League team and were placed on the practice roster.

Curry, a 5-10, 195-pound native of Miami played this season with the Hamburg Sea Devils of the NFL Europe. He appeared in seven games, hauling in 18 passes for 222 yards (12.3 avg.) with one touchdown, while returning 14 kickoffs for 391 yards.

Curry played collegiate football with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and he ranks 13th on the school’s career receiving list with 92 catches and 14th in career yards with 1,185.

Maeko, a 6-2, 200-pound graduate of St. Mary’s University in Halifax played this season for the Stockton Lightning of Arena Football. He was named the International player of the year after leading the Lightning with 80 catches for 1,343 yards and 17 touchdowns.

The Ticats play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sunday at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
