Mountaineers assured of third place in women’s OCAA fastball

There’s one more regular season game to play and then it’s on to the provincial championships for the Mohawk Mountaineers women’s fastball team. The Mountaineers can’t finish any worse nor any better than third place after splitting a doubleheader with Sudbury Cambrian College on Saturday.

The Golden Shield took the opener 6-3 but the Hamilton visitors rebounded to take the second Ontario Colleges Athletic Association game 6-5.

The split left Mohawk with a 6-5 record and they will wrap up the regular season schedule on Monday at home against the 10-1 and first place Durham Lords. Gametime at the Mohawk Sports Complex is 5.30 p.m.

Durham has pushed 106 runs across the plate in its 11 games this season while holding the opposition to 14. Mohawk has scored 39 runs and have had 38 scored against them.
Durham took a pair of games from North Bay Canadore College, 21-0 and 12-0, on Saturday.

The OCAA’s championship finale will take place on Oct. 20-21 at Windsor St. Clair College.
