First OCAA loss drops Mohawk’s men’s soccer squad to fifth place

Not many teams can record their first loss in seven games and find themselves in fifth place. But that’s where the Mohawk Mountaineers men’s soccer team is sitting today after Sunday’s 3-1 loss to the Sarnia Lampton Lions in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association action.

The defeat came on the heels of Mohawk’s 1-1 sawoff with Windsor St. Clair Saints on Friday. The tie was Mohawk’s fourth this season. The Mountaineers sit fifth with 10 points, two points back of Sheridan, Conestoga, and Fanshawe who are all knotted in second place.

Mohawk puts the wraps on the regular season on Wednesday. First place Humber Hawks bring their unbeaten 6-0-1 record to Mohawks Sports Complex for a 4.30 game.

On Sunday, Silvano Rajkovic scored the lone goal, his fifth this campaign, for Mohawk, which was the victim of back-to-back penalties awarded the Lions.

On Friday, Gaafar Wahbi (Hamilton) scored his second of the year in the first few minutes of the game for the Mountaineers, but St. Clair tied the count midway through the second half.
