Mohawk captured the bronze medal in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Women’s Fastball Championship in Windsor Saturday.
After losing their opening game Friday, 7-1 to the host St. Clair Saints, the Mountaineers whitewashed the Seneca Sting 8-0, assuring themselves a medal in the double knockout affair.
A four-run fourth inning broke open a close game and sent Mohawk on to victory. Jenny Koschanow was the winning pitcher and Becky Matson was Mohawk’s player of the game.
Mohawk was looking to avenge their opening game defeat, but St. Clair scored three times in the second inning en route to a 3-1 decision which eliminated the Mountaineers. Koschanow was charged with the defeat, and Meaghan Nadwodny was picked as Mohawk’s player of the game.
St. Clair advanced to the gold medal game, but the Durham Lords avenged last year’s final game loss to the Saints, beating them 5-3 for this year’s title.
