Hagel notched his fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the season, playing in only his seventh game. Spencer Abbott had Hamilton’s other two goals. Wes Consorti had three assists on the night and Ben Heaphy had two helpers in Hamilton’s sixth straight win.

Hamilton had period leads of 2-0 and 3-1 and scored four times on seven power play opportunities. One of Abbott’s goals was a shorthanded marker.

The Blues, who have only one win this season, had 13 extra-man situations but could mange only one goal. Chris Gelencser and Guy DeFranco had the Blues goals.

Hamilton fired 50 shots on Eddie Davey while Red Wings netminder Cam Talbot saw 25 shots.

The Red Wings will be put to the test this week. They play league leading Brampton (17-3-1) on Thursday in Brampton and then have a home-and-home series with Oakville Blades. Oakville and Hamilton each have 26 points.

Hamilton plays in Oakville Friday night and then welcomes the Blades to the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena on Monday for a 7.30 p.m. game.
