Mohawk shows well at national cross country meet

Mohawk’s men’s cross country team placed ninth in a field of 15 for the eight-kilometre run at the weekend’s Canadian Colleges Athletic Association Championships in Saint-Hyacinthe Quebec.

Andre Simon was the top Mountaineer, finishing 35th against 126 runners and was timed in 31:57.1. Justin Hensen was right behind in 36th in 32:06.5. Peter Jennings placed 72nd in 34:54.3 and Greg Shipman finished 76th in 35:08.0.

The winner was Philippe Soucy of Montreal’s College Ahuntsic in a time of 28:28.8. Lethbridge won the men’s team title.

Mohawk’s lone women’s entry, Margaret Myjak, competing in the five-kilometre event, came in 63rd in a field of 89 with a time of 26:31.6. Valerie Belanger of College Chicoutimi won in 20:11.6.
