Hamilton Bulldogs surprised the American Hockey League’s top team, blanking the Rochester Americans 6-0 Saturday night. Twelve players figured in Hamilton’s scoring as the Bulldogs improved their record to 9-8-0-1 in becoming only the third team to beat Rochester this season.
Jaroslav Halak stopped the 28 shots the Amerks fired his way and registered his league-leading third shutout of the season. Halak (5-3) also leads the league with the best goals-against average, 1.50.
Matt D’Agostini, (5), Corey Locke (6), Mikhail Grabovski (4), Jonathan Ferland (5), Andrei Kostitsyn (2), and Zack Stortini (7) scored for Hamilton.
Eric Manlow had three assist for the ‘Dogs and Locke had two helpers for three point nights.
Hamilton had 30 shots on Adam Dennis while taking period leads of 3-0, and 4-0. The Bulldogs powerplay unit was in top form scoring on three of its seven opportunities while the penalty killing team closed the door on Rochester’s seven chances.
Hamilton is back on the ice on Sunday, playing the Milwaukee Admirals at 4 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
