Red Wings junior hockey win over Milton sets up showdown with Brampton

Hamilton Junior Red Wings will put their nine game unbeaten streak to the test on Thursday (Dec.7) when they travel to Brampton to play the Capitals.

The Capitals, tied with Oakville Blades for first place in the West Division, have a four-point edge on the third-place Wings and are riding a six-game unbeaten stretch. Hamilton will be looking for its 10th game without a loss – going back to Nov. 10 – following Monday’s 7-4 win over the Milton IceHawks in the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League.
Hamilton got goals from seven players – Chris Dunsmuir (4), Mike Galbraith (5), Ben Heaphy (1), Josh Van Dyk (13), Spencer Abbott (20), Zac Rinaldo (10), and Wes Consorti (26) – in picking up its 21st win in 29 games. Defenceman Derek Szasz had three assists, Gailbraith had two, and Van Dyk had two for multiple point nights.

Scoring for Milton were Nathan Fahey, Doug Clarkson, Dylan MacEachern, and Hamilton native David Vallorani.

The Red Wings tight defensive play was again evident, limiting the IceHawks to only 17 shots on goalie Erik Crawford. The Red Wings had 35 shots on Vince Cusick. Hamilton held period leads of 2-1 and 5-2.

Milton scored two of its goals on the power play while the Red Wings capitalized three times.

After Thursday’s 7.30 p.m. game, the Red Wings visit the Mississauga Chargers on Saturday night, 8 o’clock, and host the Oakville Blades on Monday, 7.30 p.m. at the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
