Grimsby’s Mike Ransky teamed with pilot Serge Despres to win the gold medal at the Konigssee stop of the Europa Cup two-man bobsleigh event on Thursday.
Ransky, the brakeman, and Despres, of Cocagne, N.B.) registered a two-run time of 1:41.04 to take the gold, .08 seconds better than silver medallists Edwin van Calker and Sybren Jansma of the Netherlands. Pius Meierhans and Samuel Huber of Switzerland were third in the German event.
Canadian pilot Lyndon Rush (Sylvan Lake, AB) and Justin Kripps (Summerland, BC) finished in sixth place. Calgarians Trevor Irwin and Alex Torbert finished 15th.

In women’s Bobsleigh action, Kaillie Simundson (Calgary, AB) and Kaylyn Best (Balgonie, SK) clocked the fastest start times in both heats, but were edged out of the medals by the top sleds from Germany, Great Britain and Sweden. Simundson and Best finished in a time of 1:44.97 minutes, 0.91 seconds behind first place Susi Erdmann and Berit Wiacker from Germany.
Lisa Szabon and Nadine Walker had two consistent runs and a total time of 1:45.39 minutes, to place seventh.
The two-man and women’s bobsleigh teams will compete at the Europa Cup in Turin, Italy, next week.
