‘Dogs look to Stars for brighter outlook after three losses

Hamilton Bulldogs hope to end a three-game losing slide Wednesday night when the Iowa Stars come to Copps Coliseum.

The Bulldogs, still in second place in the North Division despite the trio of setbacks, fell 3-2 to the Rivermen on New Year’s Eve in Peoria and were blanked 2-0 by the Griffins the night before in Grand Rapids. They started the losing streak against the Toronto Marlies who beat them on Dec. 29.

While the ‘Dogs were losing three in a row, they did come to the end of a five-games-in-six-nights run.

Against Peoria, Duncan Milroy, with his team-leading 16th goal of the season, and Corey Locke (10) scored for Hamilton. The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and completed the scoring in the second period.

Hamilton goalie Jaroslav Halak faced 35 shots while the Bulldogs tested Chris Beckford 32 times.

In addition to his goal, Milroy had one assist while Mathieu Roy had two helpers.

All five goals were scored on the powerplay.

In Grand Rapids, the Griffins two first-period goals by Kip Miller and Matt Ellis would stand as the only offence. Bulldogs netminder Yann Danis stopped 29 of the 31 shots he saw while Stefan Liv blocked all 24 Hamilton shots.

Wednesday’s game has a 7:30 p.m. start.
