The Mohawk Men’s volleyball team, back ranked No. 1 in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association this week, improved its record to 5-0 with a 3-0 win over Redeemer Royals at the Fennell Gym on Wednesday (Jan. 10), 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.
Jasmin Cull led the Mountaineers with 24 points including 19 kills, two stuff blocks and three service aces. Kevin Watson had 10 points from five kills, four blocks and one ace for Mohawk.
The already strong Mohawk team has added to its arsenal with the return of 6-4 middle, Cam Schnarr.
Redeemer’s top scorer was Dave Berghout with nine points, all kills.
The Mountaineers now hit the road for a match at Windsor St. Clair on Thursday, Jan. 18.
The Redeemer Royals women’s team improved to 7-2 in the West with a 3-1 win over Mohawk. The Mountaineers , now 4-3 in the Central West, won the first set 25-20, but the Royals stormed back to take the next three games, 25-21, 25-16, 28-26.
Leah Waxman led Mohawk with 11 kills, one block and two aces for 14 points.
Redeemer was led by Chantal Schutten with eight kills, six blocks and three aces for 17 points.
The Mountaineers visit St. Clair on Thursday, Jan. 18.
