National badminton honour for Mohawk’s Myjak

Mohawk College badminton star Margaret Myjak has been named Ontario’s Canadian Colleges Athletic Association’s Badminton Female Athlete of the Month for January.

Margaret Myjak was named OCAA Badminton Female Athlete of the Month for January.

The award recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding event performance and athletic accomplishments during a month.

Myjak, a fourth year student, currently in her second year of the Recreation and Leisure Services course at Mohawk, secured three first place finishes in women’s singles and one gold medal in women’s doubles in tournament play.

She has been a dominant force on the OCAA badminton circuit. In 2005-06 she won the provincial gold medal in women’s singles and went on to capture a bronze medal nationally. She was also awarded the 2005-06 CCAA All-Canadian Award and was Mohawk College’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year.

This past weekend at Humber College, Myjak won the women’s singles in the West Regional Championships and will have an opportunity to defend her OCAA crown Feb. 17-18 at Centennial College in Scarborough.
