Mohawks men’s volleyball team keeps perfect record, b-ballers stumble

The Mohawk men’s volleyball team improved its unbeaten record to 9-0 sweeping the Humber Hawks 3-0 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play at the Fennell Gym on Wednesday (Feb. 7).

The scores were 25-17, 28-26, 25-20.

Jasmin Cull led the Mountaineers with 16 kills, two stuff blocks and three service aces for 21 points.

Humber’s record fell to 4-7.

The Mohawk women’s team lost 3-1 to Humber and saw it’s record slip to 7-4. Leah Waxman had 12 kills, three blocks and three aces for 18 points for the Mountaineers. Danielle Smith added 11 points on 10 kills and one ace. Humber is now 11-2.

In OCAA basketball play, the Mountaineers men’s and women’s teams were beaten by Fanshawe Falcons in London on Wednesday night (Feb. 7). The double loss, snapped Mohawk’s two-game win streaks for both teams in OCAA action.

The men lost 74-53 to the high flyng Falcons, who sport a perfect 12-0 record, while the Mountaineers are now 5-7.

The Mohawk women lost 51-33 despite outscoring the host team 23-18 in the second half. Erinn Belot had 10 points and eight rebounds and Ali Bettger added seven points for the Mountaineers.

Mohawk is now 3-7, while Fanshawe upped its mark to 6-4.
