Mohawk men win, women lose in OCAA action

Mohawk defeated the Sarnia Lambton Lions, 87-67, in Ontario College Athletic Association men’s basketball play on Friday night (Feb. 16).

Igor Trbojevic had 20 points for the Mountaineers while Matt Bruyn and Marko Gacic each contributed 19 in the game played at the Fennel Gym.

David Akelaitis had a game high 22 for Lambton.

With the win, Mohawk improved to 6-7 in the West division standings, two points behind Niagara and Algoma, who are tied for third place. The Mountaineers final regular season game is Tuesday (Feb. 20) against the Niagara Knights at Mohawk.

In women’s OCAA play, Mohawk 57-47 to the Oakville Sheridan Bruins. The results dropped Mohawk’s record to 3-8.

Erinn Belot had 14 points and Lisa Arndt added eight for the Mountaineers. Sheridan was powered by Karina Patterson’s 22 points.

The women’s final regular season game will be against Niagara Knights on Tuesday.
