Hamilton Olympic Club members came away from the recent 91st Highlander Athletic Association’s Hamilton Indoor Games with a number of medals.
In the Girls 50 metre Minor Invitational, Maggie Dumitru was the winner, breaking the tape in 7.77 seconds, a shadow ahead of Heather Dumitru, who was second in 8.09.
Kyle Stewart, who placed second in the preliminaries of the Boys 50m High School Open event in 6.38, shaved .02 seconds off his time in the final and took first place. The St. Thomas More student was .04 seconds ahead of Westmont’s Steven King (6.40). King was fourth in the prelims.
Completing the HOC 1-2-3 sweep in the event, was Sir John A. Macdonald student Damion Vassell (6.44), who had the fastest qualifying time of 6.34. His club and school mate, Sam Boateng, placed fifth in the final and qualifying heats in times of 6.63 and 6.59.
In the Boys 50m Minor Invitational, HOC runners swept the top three finishes. Connor DeJong was clocked in 7.71 for first place, with Simon Fothergill (8.16) second and Mark Noordam (8.24) taking third.
Miguel Wason, competing on the University of Western Ontario team, was a second place finisher in the final of the Men 50m Open dash in a time of 6.05 after qualifying third in 6.14 seconds.
Stephen Cameron, who grabbed the eighth qualifying spot in 6.75, then went on to place fourth in the Men’s 300m Open, with a time of 40.37.
