Mohawk sends two teams to OCAA volleyball championships

After losing three of their final four regular season games, Mohawk Mountaineers women’s volleyball team came through when it counted.

And because of that, Mohawk finds itself in this weekend’s Ontario Colleges Athletic Association volleyball championships.

The Mountaineers were forced to play a cross-over qualifying game against Belleville’s Loyalist Lancers and took that affair 3-1. The Mountaineers, who were 8-6 in regular season play, down the Lancers 25-18, 29-27, 18-25, and 25-20.

The Mohawk women, last year’s OCAA bronze medal winners, will join the men’s team at the provincial showdowns at Barrie’s Georgian College, Feb. 22-24.

The men’s squad will be defending it’s 2005-06 title after posting an 11-1 record this season.
