Mohawk in hunt for gold at OCAA Curling championships

Mohawk College rinks won four of their five matches on the opening of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Curling Championships at the Glendale Golf and Country Club in Hamilton Friday.

The Kris Blonski-skipped men’s team downed Algonquin 8-5 and defeated Fleming College of Lindsay 6-5. The Mountaineers are tied with Seneca for first place at 2-0.

The women’s team, skipped by Shawn Marshall, is tied for top spot as they won their only game of the day, 10-4 over Algonquin. Algoma and Fleming of Peterborough also won their matches.

And Russ Hunter’s mixed rink is 1-1. They defeated Seneca 10-7, before losing 8-7 to St. Clair. Algonquin and St. Clair are both 2-0 atop the mixed standings.

Play resumes Saturday at Glendale, at 401 Mount Albion Road.
