The Mohawk Mountaineers came away from the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association men’s volleyball championships as the seventh best team in the nation.
The Mountaineers used a 3-1 victory of the University of King’s College Blue Devils to take the seventh spot in the national finals on March 10. Mohawk turned back the Blue Devils 23-25, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-19) in the consolation final.
The win completed Mohawk’s year with an overall record of overall record of 32-4-1, including an 11-1 finish in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association that earned the Mountaineers a silver medal.
For Mohawk, All-Canadian left side Jasmin Cull led all players with 21 points (17 kills, 3 aces, 1 block) and 11 digs, while Kevin Watson picked up 11 points (7 K, 2 A, 2 B) and Steven Pawelczyk added 10 (4 K, 8 A, 3 B).
Second-year middle Steven Pawelczyk was named the player of the game for Mohawk.
This game marked the end to the careers of three Mohawk players. In their final action as Mountaineers, libero Matthew Schnarr picked up 10 digs, All-Canadian setter Peter Snioulis scored five points (3 K, 1A, 1 B) and picked up 27 assists, while middle blocker Cam Schnarr picked up eight points (6 K, 1 A, 1B).
