Hamilton Olympic Club members have been making a name for themselves in recent track competitions.
At the recent (March 8-12) USA National Indoor Interscholastic High School Championships in New York, Jillian Wyman placed 35th in the 800 metre even, clocking a 2:25.20 while running for Team Ontario.
And at the Canadian University Indoor Championships at Montreal’s McGill University (March 9-10) several HOC members represented various Ontario schools.
University of Windsor’s Miguel Wason placed second in the final of the 300m (34.05) after qualifying first in a preliminary in 34.36. He ran the first leg in the 4 x 200m as the team placed second in 1:27.34. Wason anchored the winners in the 4 x 400m, taking the event in 3:16.41.
HOC member Kristen Matthews, competing for York University, took the gold medal in the high jump event, clearing the bar at 1.80m.
Jen O’Brien, representing Windsor, placed 12th in the 60m preliminaries ( 8.00) and was eighth in the 300m ( 40.72) race. Running the third leg in the 4 x 400m, she was sixth for the team which clocked 3:53.09.
University of Guelph’s Laura Moulton had a fifth place showing in the 3,000m event, crossing the finish line in 10:03.70. She also placed 11th in the 1,5000m event, and was timed in 4:41.75.
