Keys, Edmondson are 1-1 as National Master Curling Championships start

Two local rinks share identical 1-1 records after two draws at the opening of the Canadian Master Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships at Hamilton’s Glendale Golf and Country Club.

Cathy Keys Glanford Curling Club defeated Eleanor Pierce of British Columbia, 6-4, but fell 8-7 to the Yukon’s Pat Banks in the women’s division on Monday.

On the men’s side, the Oakville Curling Club’s Bob Edmondson beat the Yukon’s Allen Gee 11-5 but was a 6-2 victim to Hank Enns of B.C.

Today (Tuesday, April 3) Keys will play Manitoba’s Elaine Jones in the morning draw and meets Heather Cousineau of Northern Ontario in the afternoon.

In men’s play, Edmondson will play Martin Bailey of Manitoba in the noon hour draw and Pat Gemmell of Northern Ontario in the evening event.

Nova Scotia’s Peter MacPhee leads the men’s pool at 2-0. Pacing the women at 2-0 are Verda Kempton of Nova Scotia and Alberta’s Linda Wagner.

Master curlers are 60 years and over.
