Oakville CC rink hands leader first loss at Canadian Masters Curling

Oakville’s Bob Edmondson’s rink finds itself in a three-way tie for first place heading into the ninth and final round-robin draw of the Canadian Open Men’s Master Curling Championship at the Glendale Golf and Country Club.

Edmondson’s 6-2 record is matched by Alberta’s Keith Kaufman and Nova Scotia’s Peter MacPhee.

On Thursday, Edmondson handed MacPhee his first loss, 8-5, and then edged Saskatchewan’s Richard Leippi, 5-4. MacPhee also lost to Quebec’s Mike Carson, 6-5, while Kaufman beat New Brunswick’s Gord Snow, 9-1, and Manitoba’s Martin Bailey, 4-1.

Edmondson and Carson meet in today’s (Friday’s) morning draw with Kaufman and MacPhee going head-to-head.

In the Women’s division, Glanford Curling Club skip Cathy Keys was a 7-3 winner over Nova Scotia’s Verda Kempton but fell 10-2 to Saskatchewan’s Carol Christopher. That left her rink’s record at 3-5 and tied for fifth place. Alberta’s Linda Wagner leads the field with a 7-1 mark.

Keys will play Quebec’s Pierette Boisvert, also at 3-5.
