Burlington’s Dickens off to World University Games

Burlington’s Scott Dickens has been named to Canada’s swim team that will compete at this summer’s World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dickens competes for the University of British Columbia Dolphins who placed 14 swimmers on the 33-member Canadian men’s and women’s team.

Dickens, 22, was named University Athlete of the Year at the Annual Sport BC Awards last year. He was a member of the 2005 World Championship Team which competed in Montreal and then went on to the World University Games in Turkey, where he became a silver medallist in the 50-metre breaststroke.
Dickens studies Arts at UBC.

He also competed in Melbourne, Australia, site of the 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The University Games are scheduled for Aug. 8-18 with the swimming events running from Aug. 11-17.
