The weather might be playing games with everyone, but have faith. It will get warmer.
And with that in mind, here’s a reminder about one event you don’t want to miss: The 4th Annual Wismer Foundation Golf Tournament and Award Presentation Dinner is set for Tuesday, Sept. 11. The early entry deadline is June 1 and the event is regularly sold out. The venue is the Carlisle Golf and Country Club.
The golf tournament and dinner is the primary fundraiser for the Wismer Foundation, which annually presents the Wismer Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence
Established in 2002 to honour the late John Wismer, it is the Foundation’s desire to continue his legacy by encouraging, recognizing and rewarding excellence in high school athletics and coaching. The Wismer Award for Academic and Athletic Excellence is presented yearly to an outstanding athlete graduating from Barton high school and who is pursuing a post-secondary education at the university or college level. A cash scholarship assists the recipient’s post-secondary education.
The Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence was established in 2004 in co-operation with the Hamilton Wentworth and the Hamilton Wentworth Catholic district school boards. It recognizes the often-overlooked efforts of coaches who make significant contributions to the growth and continuing development of students and athletes.
John Wismer believed, and lived, that coaches had a role that went beyond their on-field instructions.
