Hamilton Aquatic Club’s Gerum named to Canadian swim team

Hamilton’s Greg Gerum has been selected to compete for Canada in an international swim meet.

Greg Gerum, from Hamilton Aquatic Club, was named to the Canada swim team.

Gerum, a member of the Hamilton Aquatic Club, will join the 42-member Swimming Canada team for the first ever North American Challenge Cup. The competition takes place Aug. 10 – 12 at the University of Southern California and will feature teams from Southern California, Mexico and Canada.

Gerum, a 17-year-old graduating student of Westmount Secondary School, is a member of Team Canada’s Youth Team and specializes in the 200-metre and 400m freestyle events.
Swimmers were selected from the national rankings for the period Sept. 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007.

The North American Challenge Cup is a key component of the evolving Swimming Canada’s National Team Development Program. It will be used in conjunction with other tours including the Australian Youth Olympic Fest ival; Junior Pan Pacific Championships; FINA World Youth Championships; as well as European and other tours. The primary focus of the National Team Development Program is to identify and develop the future talent of Swimming Canada.
