Hamilton rowers place well at USRowing National Championships

Ancaster’s Sandra Kisil was a member of the Canadian women’s eight that placed second at the recent USRowing National Championships.

The crew of Kisial, Lesley Thompson-Willie of London, Heather Mandoli of Kelowna, B.C., Ashley Brzozowicz of Toronto, Kaylan Vander Schilden and Romina Stefancic of Victoria, B.C., Sabrina Kolker of West Vancouver, Katie Reynolds of St. John, N.B., and Sarah Bonikowsky of Orangeville, Ont. finished second in 06:09:53 to the first-place U.S. crew (06:06:48) at the 136th running of the meet on Mercer Lake in New Jersey.

A group of Canada’s top Under-23 women – Kat Romatowski (coxswain) of St. Catharines, Buzzy McCord of Toronto, Sarah Waterfield of Kingston, Emelia Colman-Shepherd of Port Moody, B.C., Lauren Hutchins of West Vancouver, Stephanie Morrison of Nelson, B.C., Emma Darling of Vancouver, Julia Nelson of St. Catharines, and Audra Vair, Ottawa, – finished fourth in this event in 6:14:90.

Notable Canadian club results included a fourth place in the women’s single (07:54:24) by Michelle Prince of the Ridley Graduate Boat Club and a fourth (06:47:47) in the men’s pair by Hamilton’s Leander Boat Club’s Aubrey Oldham and Liam Brennan.

Canadian women picked up two gold medals at the meet.
The women’s pair of Darcy Marquardt of Richmond, B.C. and Jane Rumball of Fredericton, N.B., 2006 World Champions, won their race in 06:56:51

The women’s quad – Anna-Marie de Zwager of Victoria, B.C., Krista Guloien of Port Moody, B.C, Janine Hanson of Winnipeg, Man., and Rachelle de Jong of Regina, Sask. – won in 06:18:97.

Four members (Morrison, Hutchins, Colman-Shepherd, and Vair) of the Under 23 eight also rowed in the women’s four event and finished third (06:49:44).
