Hamilton Thunderbirds swept a doubleheader from the Stratford Nationals on Canada Day, taking the first game 5-2 and the second game, 7-1.
Nibaldo Acosta threw a no-hitter until the second batter of the fifth inning in the senior Intercounty Baseball League’s first game at Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium. Acosta went six innings for the victory giving up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. Rob Foscarin came on in relief.
Jesus Chourio cruised through seven innings allowing one run on two hits and two walks for the win in the second game. He had six strikeouts as the Thunderbirds improved their record to 9-16 to remain tied for sixth place.
