Mohawk, Redeemer off and running in cross country

Mohawk College’s cross country race season starts Saturday with an invitational meet it is co-hosting with Redeemer University College in Ancaster. The Mountaineers expect to have two runners – Megan Yzerman and Charlene Gibbons – in the women’s five kilometre event, which starts at 11 a.m.

Seven runners are expected to compete for Mohawk in the men’s eight kilometre race, which starts at noon.

Coach Wayne Collins feels he has a solid men’s squad, which includes several returning runners, including Andre Simon and Justin Hensen, both of whom have been active in triathlons over the summer. Jacob MacDonald has recovered from a broken foot suffered last year.

Also on the men’s team for this opening test are Cam Sheppard, Greg Shipman, Tyler Beedham, Peter Jennings and Ryan Hassim.

The race starts at the soccer fields adjacent to the Ancaster Community Centre and the Morgan Firestone Arena at 385 Jerseyville Road West.

Results from the race will be available at
