The Mohawk Mountaineers came back from a 6-0 deficit in the first inning to defeat the Cambrian Golden Shield 9-8 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s fastball at Mohawk Sports Park Saturday.
The Mountaineers scored four runs in the second inning and four more in the third to lead 8-6. Cambrian tallied twice in the fourth to tie the score. Then Mohawk shortstop Samantha Tubman delivered a run scoring single in the seventh frame for the victory.
Earlier Tubman drew a bases loaded walk for another RBI. Ellie Hogg drove in a pair of runs as did catcher Michelle James and starting pitcher Brigit Rewald, who had a pair of triples in the game. The other Mohawk run came as a result of a Cambrian error. Jenny Koschanow, who came on in relief of Rewald, recorded her second win of the weekend over the Golden Shield and improved her record to 2-1, the same as her team’s mark.
The Mountaineers will have a big test in their next game Tuesday (Sep. 18) when the Seneca Sting of North York visit Mohawk Sports Park with the first pitch at 5:30 pm.
