Ancaster pitcher named to Canada’s national junior team

Ancaster’s Brad Furdal has been named to Canada’s Junior National Team as it prepares to open the annual Fall Instructional League Camp at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida.

The 6-2, 180-pound, 16-year-old right-handed pitcher, who turns 17 on Oct. 21, reports to the camp on Oct. 4. It concludes on Oct. 14. The team will play its first exhibition game on Saturday (Oct.6) against Atlanta Braves prospects.

The Canadian roster features 13 returning players who competed at the America’s World Junior Qualifying tournament in Ixtapa, Mexico in August. The Juniors will take on other Major League affiliated teams including the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians, as well as Seminole Community College which is based at Sanford, Florida.

Niagara Falls resident Peter Dobbin is the team’s trainer.
