The Durham Lords whipped the Mohawk Mountaineers 12-4 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women’s fastball Friday (Sept. 21) in Oshawa. The Lords exploded for a handful of runs midway through the game to coast to their victory.
Jenny Koschanow, last week’s top female athlete in the OCAA after a no-hitter against Cambrian, was tagged with the defeat. She is now 2-3, the same record as her team. Newcomer Jessica Roloson pitched the last half of the game and head coach Brian Weller was pleased with her effort. And despite the score, Weller was also happy to see the Mountaineer bats starting to work. He said his charges had some good hits in the game.
The Mountaineers have no time to rest. They remained in Oshawa for the 2007 Can-Am Classic Women’s Fastball Tournament today (Saturday) and Sunday.
Saturday at 2 p.m. Mohawk plays Monroe College of New York. Then at 4 p.m. they’ll face Seneca. Sunday, the Mountaineers get another shot at Durham at 11 a.m. The bronze medal game will be Sunday at 1 p.m. with the championship game at 3 p.m.
