AHL Bulldogs reduce roster by seven

The Hamilton Bulldogs trimmed their roster by seven players on Wednesday as they prepare for the opening of the 2007-08 American Hockey League season.

Forwards Mathieu Aubin, Thomas Beauregard and David Desharnais, and netminder Cedrick Desjardins were assigned to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the East Coast Hockey League on Wednesday (Oct. 3). Goaltender Loic Lacasse was sent to the Bloomington PrairieThunder of the International Hockey League while defencemen Dominic D’Amour and David Cornacchia were released from their professional tryout contracts.

The Hamilton Bulldogs now have 26 players on their roster: They are forwards Jimmy Bonneau, Matt D’Agostini, Jonathan Ferland, Sergei Kostitsyn, Janne Lahti, Maxim Lapierre, Francis Lemieux, Corey Locke, Eric Manlow, Duncan Milroy, Ryan Russell, Greg Stewart, Cory Urquhart, and Ajay Baines (injured); defencemen Jean-Philippe Cote, Marvin Degon, Jon Gleed, Gerard Miller, Ryan O’Byrne, Jamie Rivers, Pavel Valentenko, Andrew Archer (injured), Mathieu Biron (injured), and Mathieu Carle (injured); goaltenders Jaroslav Halak and Yann Danis.

Returning players from last season include forwards Baines, Bonneau, D’Agostini, Ferland, Lapierre, Lemieux, Locke, Manlow, Milroy and Urquhart; defencemen Archer, Biron, Cote, Gleed and O’Byrne; and goaltenders Halak and Danis. Other returning players that spent time with Hamilton last season, but never played a game, include forwards Greg Stewart and Sergei Kostitsyn, and defenceman Mathieu Carle.

Newcomers include forwards Janne Lahti (HPK Hameenlinna, FNL) and Ryan Russell (Kootenay, WHL ), and defencemen Pavel Valentenko (Nizhnekamsk, RSL), Jamie Rivers (Peoria, AHL / St. Louis, NHL), Marvin Degon (Hartford) and Gerard Miller (Flint, UHL).

The Bulldogs’ season opener is on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they travel to Rochester to take on the Americans.
